23 October The Buckeye & Our Website: Transformations in Regional Communication October 23, 2018By Jason Quick General Beta Beta Theta Chapter, Ohio Region History, Julie Cohara , Ohio Region, The Buckeye 0 When I joined the Ohio Region of Phi Theta Kappa thirteen years ago, The Buckeye functioned to communicate as a quarterly newsletter. Initially printed for distribution at regional events, technology emerged to send as pdf files to advisor and chapter officer mailing lists. The tender, loving care put into each edition was to be admired. The Buckeye newsletter illustrated the passion people held for promoting the opportunities Phi Theta Kappa affords to our students. Since I came on board as regional coordinator in 2014, The Buckeye has undergone transformations to find a most impactful identity. Under Becca McDowell’s (Stark State alumnus) leadership in 2015, I admired her vision and action to transform The Buckeye into the style of a magazine with a fresh perspective. Under the 2016-2017 Regional Officer Team’s vision and Ciera Parr’s (West Virginia Northern alumnus) 2017-2018 tremendous coordination, The Buckeye aimed to become a yearbook to celebrate the Ohio Region’s 30th Anniversary. Now, as 2018 comes to a close, The Buckeye transforms again. To speak of this transformation, the acknowledgement of the evolution of our website is concurrently important. The former website served the Ohio Region for an estimated two decades. It was registered in the name of late regional coordinator, Dr. John Kesler (Lakeland Community College), with support from Mary Hooker Myers (Columbus State alumnus). For as long as I’ve been part of the region, Rick Clever (Owens alumnus and advisor) generously offered his time and personal funds to maintain the website. With the introduction of Jason Quick, the first Regional Website Developer hired at headquarters, a 2017-2018 transfer of the website content from our old site to present one began. In January 2018, our website abruptly launched early due to international hacking of our old site. Now that our website has transformed into one that mirrors ptk.org this year, Jason encouraged us to move The Buckeye to a blog format through the new website. Moving forward, I’m excited to announce under the leadership of Sharon Putney (Marion Technical College) as our region’s Secretary/Editor, that that The Buckeye will now serve to communicate the news, history, and happenings of the Ohio Region of Phi Theta Kappa! The Buckeye logo contest remains open through January 1, 2019 for students, alumni, and advisors of the Ohio Region. Please e-mail your logo entry to both Julie Cohara and Sharon Putney (contact information for both are noted below) by January 1st. The designer of the selected logo will receive one free registration to the 2019 Ohio Hallmark Convention in Steubenville, Ohio (March 8-9, 2019).
